I need feminism because...
whoneedsfeminism: “when he called me a slut after sexually assaulting me, i believed him.” …but thankfully pro-feminist groups and wonderful friends have helped me to identify as a survivor; not a victim and NOT a slut. Now I facilitate support groups to help others do the same :-)

Woman v. The Government
Woman: I cannot afford to have a child right now. Can I have birth control?
Government: No.
Woman: I got pregnant but I cannot afford to have a child and I'm not ready to be a parent. Can I have an abortion?
Government: No.
Woman: I had the child, but I cannot afford to raise him. Will you help me out?
Government: No.
Woman: I guess I'll have to give my child up for adoption.
Barry and Steve: We would love to raise your child. We have been in a committed relationship for 15 years. We have steady careers and are very successful and financially stable. We love children and wish to provide a loving nurturing environment for your child. Would you be willing to give your child to us?
Woman: Sure, as long as it's ok with the government.
Government: No.

i will not *respect* anti-gay bigotry because it...
polycule: lacigreen: sorry, not sorry. This is exactly what I’ve been trying to say. The law, a person’s inalienable rights, does not require me to respect you. It’s not because I don’t respect freedom of speech, it’s because you’re a dickwad.
